Being vegan is more than just not eating meat, it is an entire lifestyle of not engaging in any activity which undermines the integrity and welfare of other living beings. But, regardless if you eat vegan, or just a good person who doesn’t want to hurt others, it’s always a good idea to switch to cruelty-free cosmetics.
So let me start with the bad news: it’s take to clean out your makeup bag and throw out L’Oreal, Dove, Pantene, Bobbi Brown, M.A.C. and a couple of others.
The good news? A great variety of amazing cosmetics and makeup products, all cruelty-free!
I’m starting this list of amazing cruelty-free brands with a company founded by a proud Romanian: Anastasia Beverly Hills. The company reports on their website that new products are always tested on clients and not animals. I don’t know about you, but I’m sure volunteering to be a test subject for them!
I love Marc’s beauty line almost as much as I love him, so their cruelty-free practices could only be reason for happiness. Just be careful, because this, sadly does not extend to Marc Jacobs Fragrances too. Maybe soon 🙂
3. Too Faced*
Too Faced is always my go-to-brand when buying at Sephora and it makes me so happy to say it made it on the cruelty-free list. Sadly, their parent company, Estée Lauder, isn’t so kind, but I think that if we continue supporting Too Faced, Estée Lauder will see just how good it is to respect all living things!
P.S. Did you know that even their brushes made from soft synthetic “teddy bear” hair?
No animal testing here either, just wonderful cosmetics. Again, they too have an asterisk after their name because their parent company, in this case Shiseido, does test on animals. So lets show them too that kindness and common sense doesn’t compromise great quality.
Still owned by Shiseido, but here’s another cool and fashionable cosmetics brand which knows that goodness is never out of fashion! François Nars is vegan himself so this couldn’t have been any other way!
100% cruelty-free doesn’t mean it can’t be affordable too and NYX is living proof of that. More than that, NYX has remained true to their values even after been acquired by L’Oreal, which historically tests on animals. Go NYX!
With a slogan like “BEAUTY IS NOT BRUTALITY” Illamasqua has instantly transformed into my favorite cosmetics brand. “Illamasqua products have NEVER and will NEVER be tested on animals. Our make-up brushes are made entirely out of synthetic hair and our range also houses over 100 Vegan products.” Needless to say more!
8. The Body Shop*
With a history of fighting for what’s right, The Body Shop, even if owned by L’Oreal, is cruelty free and forever against animal testing!
9. Urban Decay
100% cruelty-free, Urban Decay is committed to women empowerment and ending animal testing. Sounds like the perfect combo! As for their vegan products, not all of them are, so just be on the lookout for the products marked vegan.
Cruelty-free, organic and 100% vegan products. How can you not love this Aussie makeup brand made from 100% natural ingredients derived from exotic plants?
Bonus: 2 Amazing Hair and Body Brands
Moroccanoil is not vegan friendly, but it is an animal-friendly company and does not test on animals. Not all of their products are 100% vegan, but small steps!
Vegan, cruelty-free, handmade and fun are what define Lush products. Enjoy!
